Buhari Must Not Resign – Ohanaeze Chieftain, Dozie Ikedife

Former President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Dr. Dozie Ikedife, has said there would be no need for President Muhammadu Buhari to resign if he returns to Nigeria hale and hearty.

He hinted that the Presidency was not handling President Buhari's health situation well.

Recall that Buhari left for London since January 19 and the Presidency had announced that Buhari wrote to the senate to extend his vacation indefinitely due to 'health issues.'

Buhari, on Tuesday had also explained why he requested for longer period to rest in the United Kingdom, maintaining that until his doctors are satisfied with his health, he will not return to Nigeria.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, Youths Renaissance had demanded for Buhari's resignation within one month or he will be disgraced out of office.

But in his reaction, Dr. Ikedife urged Nigerians to pray for the president so that he would get well soon and return to the country.

Speaking with The Authority, he said, "I'm not happy how the presidency is handling the comments coming out. That leaves a lot of speculations.

"Generally, it is clear to me, from what is going on, that most Nigerians do not believe what is being dished out.

"There would be no need for the president to resign and hand over to Vice President Yemi Osibajo, if he returns to Nigeria hale and hearty.

"I have never heard it discussed or written in any constitution that the president of a country can never fall sick.

"So, I do not agree with those who are saying that he should resign when he comes back.

"I do not know why people are wishing Buhari death.

"President Buhari is not dead, to the best of my knowledge; and based on the information available to Nigerians," he noted.
