Jibrin Apologises To Buhari, APC For Calling For The President’s Resignation

Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, House of Representatives

Abdulmumini Jibrin, a member of the House of Representatives, has issued an apology to President Muhammadu Buhari, over his recent comments calling for the president to quit office over his ill health.

Jibrin, who represents Kiru/Bebeji Federal constituency of Kano State, went on microblogging website, Twitter, some days ago raising a number of weighty issues and questioning Buhari’s integrity. He said he no longer recognised “the man he voted for” in 2015.

The controversial lawmaker issued his apology while addressing a crowd at his residence shortly after conducting special prayer for President Buhari in Kofa Juma’at Mosque, Bebeji local government area, Kano, on Friday, April 7, 2017.

“I apologise to [the] president, APC [All Progressives Congress], Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and all APC supporters over what I said even though it was misinterpreted and misconstrued,” Jibrin said.

“To my party supporters, leaders, friends and all those who felt offended over my comments, I sincerely apologise.

“While I offered the advice and proffered solutions in good faith, some political detractors availed themselves of the opportunity to deliberately misconstrue and misjudge my remarks in order to put me on collision course with my party and President.”

The suspended lawmaker further noted that he will remain a supporter of the president, his administration and fight against corruption in the country.

He added that as part of his support for the president, he had launched the Muhammadu Buhari Special Empowerment programmes.

“I was in the United Kingdom when the thing happened. What I did was to rush down home in the next available flight. I want show them that I am still with my people and they support me at all times,” he said.

On March 31, 2017, the former chairperson of the appropriation committee of the House of Representatives said on Twitter, “PMB, [President Muhammadu Buhari] TIME TO LET GO: So many issues are left unattended even small issues that a presidential cough can deal with are left hanging.”

“Supporters are worried, understandably resorting to grumbling in hush voices while keeping bold faces and holding on to hope and prayers,” he went on to say.

“The government has so many soft target for internal and external opposition to feast. We must tell ourselves the truth rather than live in denial

“At PMB’s age, working actively for over 50 years, even without his present health condition, his capacity will be greatly challenged.

“Mr president himself admitted that he has never been this sick in his entire life which makes the entire scenario really worrisome,” Jibrin added.

He also called for a compensatory cabinet position for the president’s wife, Aisha Buhari.
